CVYS Club Travel Purpose Statement

CVYS will field recreational and competitive travel teams in PA West Soccer Association and travel registration will be open to all Club players of appropriate ages.  These teams will be made up primarily of Central Valley School District and surrounding communities and while more competitive in nature, will promote good sportsmanship, and love of the game.

CVYS recognizes that children develop at different rates, and the soccer ability and general athletic ability of children can change dramatically at various ages.  For this reason CVYS will focus on fielding as many recreational and competitive travel teams as the capability and interest of the club membership allows.  Recreational travel teams will compete in PA West recreational division(s) and will have a heavier emphasis on maximizing participating and player development to work toward competitive travel.  Competitive travel teams will play in PA West Division 4 and will focus on continued player development, competitive play and team standings within the division.

Travel soccer requires higher level of commitment as the practices and games will be typically mandatory and more frequent in nature.  The travel league plays on Sunday afternoons for 8 weeks and matches will be played both home and away throughout the PA West region.

Coaches for travel teams will be either volunteers from the club membership or can be paid trainers contracted by CVYS.  In either case, coaches will be selected by the CVYS BOD prior to start of each session, based on having the best qualifications and fit to coach a given team.  Prospective coaches will participate in travel evaluations and team formations.  The CVYS travel soccer bylaws will be maintained by the CVYS BOD and will provide a framework for how travel evaluations are conducted and how travel teams are subsequently rostered and declared in PA West divisions.

PAWest Recognition for our 5v5 participation.

Here is an exsert from an email discussion with Cristine Henderson (PA West District 3 Director).

-- The 5v5 format that we experienced last Fall is becoming a fixture. The USSF and USYS just sanctioned it and it will become mandated policy by 2017 for all soccer orgs. You should credit your club for forming the first 5v5 team in Western PA history, and helping to form the first 5v5 league (U15) in PA West.

You need to read about the 5v5 format. All European states credit the 5v5 for being the most effective format in developing youth soccer players and elevating them into elite levels of soccer. Brazil, Spain and Germany all claim the 5v5 format produced more international superstars in their states than any other format or training.

It's the smallest number of players where you still have positions. Nobody can hide. It produces something like 350% more touches to the ball per player, and causes the goalkeeper to engage in the ball more in one game than in an entire season of 11v11 games. German state DOCs told the U.S., had the USA utilized the 5v5 format sooner in their training and youth division programs, the USA would be a much bigger force to be reckoned. That said, all European states and S. America have done away with the 11v11 game in youth divisions elite and academy levels. The 5v5 format is #1. Be prepared to see the changes in the USA as they now play catch-up.

CVYS Board would like to thank our coaches, parents and players for being part of the initial 5v5 league this past Fall Session. In additional, thank you Andy Armutat for all your time and effort in bringing these teams together.
